9 Ideas to Fix Up your Terrace or Balcony on a Budget

Summer has arrived and it’s time to enjoy the good weather from your terrace or balcony. If you have an apartment with a balcony or terrace in a major city like Barcelona, you are fortunate! That’s why, we are showing you some ideas to inspire you and refresh this space! Moreover, with our tricks and good planning, you won’t need to spend a lot to achieve an excellent result. Get your notebook ready and take note!

1. Create an outdoor dining area

Whether you have a small balcony or a larger terrace, do not hesitate to create a space to enjoy a good meal. If space is limited, start by buying a table and a set of folding chairs, this will make it easier to put away when not in use or during off-seasons.

2. Reuse wooden pallets

There is nothing better than having a sustainable home. A good way of doing this is by recycling materials and adding wooden elements to an outside space, this adds a more rustic touch. Wooden pallets are a good option to turn into spacious sofas. Just add some cushions to create your chill-out zone. Also, with a good coat of paint they will look as good as new!

Another option is to repurpose them as shelves, where you can put plants, some books, or decorative items.

3. Two in One furniture

Although sometimes we panic about not having a tidy terrace, it is very normal to not have sufficient space for all of the outside elements. So, if you do not have too many  square metres, you can opt for a storage sofa, which we guarantee you will gain more space from. No more chaos in sight!

4. Revamp the terrace floor

If your apartment has a terrace, we recommend that you give your floor a face lift with two cheap and effective options: If you want a quick change, go for a composite tile floor, not only are they very easy to clean, but they are also ideal for areas with a pool. On the other hand, if you don’t want to lose sight of the greenery, opt for artificial grass. Although it requires maintenance and care, it helps to lower high temperatures.

5. Plants, the green protagonists

Without a doubt when we think of an outside space, like a balcony or terrace, we cannot forget about flowers and plants. As well as being an essential decorative element to give life and connect with nature, if they are small they also do not cost a lot. Of course, you have to take care of them to make them look pretty!

6. Add a swing or a pergola

We all love to enjoy the sun, however, in Barcelona during the hot months you need to be careful not to burn. Therefore, a good option if you have a small balcony without a roof is to buy a footless parasol, which can be supported by the railing. If, instead, you have a big terrace, the best option is to buy a pergola or some vine plants that can shade you, as this will save you a little more in your pocket.

7. Lights and coloured lanterns

Even at night, your terrace or balcony still has a lot to offer. If you want to add a magical touch to this space, it is essential that it features fairy lights and some lanterns. The best options are those that work with LED bulbs or are solar powered, you can even recycle some mason jars and create your own candle holders!

8. Create a relaxation zone

To make your terrace or balcony a relaxing space to rest, read, or even sleep, you can add some deckchairs, depending on the space, or a beanbag. If you want to elevate the comfort and chic design even more, we recommend that you opt for a hanging armchair, as they are perfect for mini terraces or balconies

9. Add your personal touch

The most important thing is to create a space that matches your personality. If your flat is for rent, each room has to make the guests feel like they’re at home. So, add a rug made from natural fibres to give the flat a more warm and homely feel. Also you can opt for renovating the cushion covers or buying some nice new ones. A touch of colour never fails!

As you can see, there are many options to fix up your terrace or balcony. Moreover, having a nicely done up space does not depend on the amount of square metres you have nor the budget, but on the ability to choose suitable and quality products. If you are thinking of redesigning your kitchen or bedroom, do not miss our advice!
