Get Inspired by Mediterranean Decor to Attract More Guests to Your Apartment This Summer

If there’s one décor style that comes back every year, it’s the Mediterranean style. Known for bringing a sense of freshness and a warm, inviting atmosphere to any space, it’s ideal for holiday rentals. Below, we share a few tips to decorate your tourist apartment with this look and attract more guests this summer.

1. Colours that evoke sand and sea

To achieve a Mediterranean style in your holiday apartment this summer, it’s essential to use a bright and natural colour palette.

  • White: The star of the show. It reflects natural light, opens up the space and works well on walls, ceilings, and sofas.
  • Sky blue and turquoise: These shades evoke the sea and sky, and add a touch of coolness.

Use them in small details like tableware or cushions.

  • Beige: Warm and neutral tones, perfect for furniture, rugs, and accessories.
  • Emerald green: Reminiscent of vegetation, great for plants and decorative accents.
  • Terracotta and coral: These hues add contrast and a touch of rustic elegance.

2. Furniture: natural and simple

The furniture should be light and, above all, functional. Think of open spaces and soft lines. In each area:

  • Living room: This is one of the most used spaces, so it’s essential to include practical and comfortable elements. A light-coloured sofa with a washable cover is an excellent choice, especially appreciated during the hot summer months.
  • Dining area: Since this space often hosts groups, we recommend a sturdy yet simple table paired with wooden or wicker chairs.
  • Bedrooms: Once again, we suggest using wood for the bed headboards, bringing a fresh and natural feel to the room. For bedside tables, consider adding ceramic lamps and soft textiles in white, beige, or blue.
  • Terrace / Balcony: A great choice would be to place a folding table and chairs, outdoor cushions, and some warm string lights to set the mood.

3. Textiles: ultimate freshness

Natural fabrics provide warmth without overwhelming the space. They’re also comfortable, breathable, and easy to maintain.

  • Linen and cotton: Essential for cushions, sheets, and curtains. They add texture and a fresh touch.
  • Colours and patterns: Off-white, mustard, and nautical stripes.
  • Rugs: Jute or sisal, to bring a rustic touch that pairs with everything.
  • On the terrace: We suggest using bamboo blinds or light fabrics to filter sunlight—stylishly, of course!

4. Materials

The Mediterranean style is built on materials that connect the sea with the land. The following ones are ideal for achieving this look:

  • Light / aged wood: Ideal for doors, tables, chairs, and shelving.
  • Handcrafted ceramics: Use them in dishware, lamps, or even decorative wall art.
  • Linen and cotton: Found in all textiles throughout the apartment.
  • Glass: Helps let light through and can be used in vases and mirrors.
  • Natural stone: Limestone is very popular for floors, walls, and architectural details. Natural stone tones create a serene and elegant atmosphere.
  • Natural fibres: Materials like jute and sisal are perfect for rugs and storage baskets. They are durable and add texture to the room.

5. Warm yet natural lighting

Lighting is a key element to evoke a relaxing atmosphere and create a Mediterranean look:

  • Maximise natural light: Leave windows bare or use sheer curtains. If possible, connect indoor and outdoor areas with sliding doors.
  • Warm lighting for the evening: Choose warm-toned bulbs and lamps made of natural fibres.
  • Functional lighting: In areas like the kitchen and bathroom, use simple, discreet spotlights that still maintain warmth.
  • Evening ambience: Add candles or lanterns to create cosy corners on the terrace or balcony.

6. Decorative elements

We don’t want overdecorating, so just a few details will do:

  • Integrated greenery: Add Mediterranean plants like lavender, olive trees, or rosemary to bring freshness and authenticity.
  • Creative recycling: Repurpose and transform items—for example, a ladder can become a towel rack, or an old door can be turned into a headboard.
  • Mediterranean-inspired artwork:
    • Coastal landscapes: Coves, beaches, or coastal villages.
    • Ceramics: Prints of traditional tiles or decorative plates on the wall.
    • Natural elements: Illustrations of olive branches, lavender, or lemons.

The Mediterranean style is more than just aesthetics—it’s a way of living and feeling. With just a few well-chosen elements, your apartment can become a welcoming haven that is both warm and fresh.
